Report Cards

My son came home with his report card recently. Somewhere along the line, and I don’t know how I missed this, the Ontario Government moved the Learning Skills Section to the first page.

Bravo!

In Ontario six learning skills are evaluated: things like how students work independently, complete their homework, get along with others. Those kinds of things.

When I was teaching they were thought to be the greatest predictor of future success at school. The most important part of the report card. Which I agree with. (Except probably for socio-economic status).

The importance of assessing and reporting learning skills is beyond question. But are they taught, or just evaluated?
