Preparing to Teach

It is readily acknowledged that Indian children lose their natural resistance to illness by habituating so closely in the residential schools and that they die at a much higher rate than in their villages. But this alone does not justify a change in the policy of the Department, which is geared towards a final solution of our Indian Problem.

I’m preparing to teach in a First Nations Community. Right now I’m participating in a three week orientation facilitated by Teach For Canada. Teach for Canada is an outstanding organization, but more about them in a future blog.

Right now I’m struggling with many issues: “final solution” , will I bring something of value?, am I bailing on my family?, can I teach? and all the other stuff my friends will know (and so laugh) I’m overthinking.

Peace,

~Jim
